Howls moving castle is about Sophie befriending a wizard named Howl who lives in a magical flying castle. The evil witch of the waste takes issue with their budding relationship and places a spell on Sophie which ages her prematurely. Howl now has to use his magical talents to battle the witch and return Sophie to her younger self.
The Witch of the waste
The witch of the waste used to be an apprentice to Sulliman until she became extremely greedy which led to her being banished to live in the waste. Howl once thought she was beautiful and decided to pursue her however, he soon learned she uses magic to make herself look young; this made him run off. Ever since this, the witch has had an unhealthy obsession with Howl and has tried to obtain his heart, hoping to make him love her. Seeing Howl develop a relationship with Sophie made her jealous and she ultimately decided to turn Sophie into an old lady.
The witch of the waste is drawn as an overweight woman. She has a pointy nose followed by wide full lips and a protruding double chin. She is always wearing a black dress with a fur coat and fur hat. Black is said to represent fear, evil and aggression all of which fit the personality of the witch. The witch is also seen to be wearing make up all the time as she is constantly trying to keep up the facade of being young.
In regards to the rest of the movie, I thought this scene would make a good reference for my project
The dark wings paired with the flying embers are really captivating.
I found some moments that didn’t necessarily remind me of nightmares but more so dreams
