My first step included researching into the top Horror Movies of all time.
In no particular order
- Alien
- Dawn of the Dead
- Psycho
- Rosemarys Baby
- The Exorcist
- The Thing
- The Shining
- Jaws
- Halloween
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I realised that 3 out of the 10 included children in their plot:
- Rosemarys Baby, Rosemary pregnant with a baby that belongs to Satan
- The Exorcist, 12 year old Regan possessed by a demon after playing with a Ouija board
- The Shining, Danny possesses a supernatural power that makes him see terrifying visions (also the use of the twin girls is one of the most popular horror visuals of all time)
I came to the conclusion that the use of innocent children to portray scary concepts is what made the movies what they are. This was something I wanted to look into even more.
