For my self initiated project I wanted to focus on the Horror Industry.

Growing up I was extremely interested in the dark side of things: All of the short stories I wrote in secondary school English were heavily focused on horror. At the end of year 2 I tried filming and editing for the first time and it was something that seemed to come naturally.

Fear is an involuntary emotion every neurotypical person experiences. When looking at the Horror industry, the use of Children can be extremely impactful. The Omen, The Sixth Sense and The Shining are but a few examples of this phenomenon. I want to explore Horror and relate it to the innocence of Childhood.

When going beyond the gore and tension, Horror movies usually have deeper underlying meanings; Fear is what stops viewers from receiving the message. All moving images have the ability to be interpreted. This project could be placed under cinematography and public engagement.

The start of my research will be focused on behind the scenes videos, in which we can see how certain effects are obtained in horror movies (One franchise that comes to mind is Final destination). I will then go on to experimenting with fake blood, science experiments that can be done at home and tips I have gotten from the videos I watch. While doing this I will be watching videos that talk about different aspects of horror movies. Fortunately, Halloween season is right around the corner so there should be a lot events that I can attend.

My camera is my main material; fake blood will be used a lot too.
